Services
Placenta Encapsulation originated as part of Eastern medicine where it has been in practice, in various forms, for hundreds of years. Over the last decade it continues to gain popularity in Europe and North America as birth professionals and mothers discover the many benefits of the placenta to postpartum health.
Natural Afterbirth offers the most popular and current methods of placenta encapsulation. Choose which method meets your individual needs; High-Potency, TCM, or a combination of both.
We offer several different packages to meet your individual needs.
Smoothies, additional tinctures, additional or colored prints , and truffles are available at an additional cost.
"I really enjoyed my experience with Melanie. She expertly answered all my questions and was very easy to talk to. She provided the encapsulation of my placenta quickly and even included a nifty imprint of it for to keep as a memento. Her instructions for using the capsules were easy to follow, too! Overall, I would rate my experience with this service and with Melanie as exceedingly positive."

High-potency Encapsulation
This method retains the highest level of hormones and nutrients in the placenta and produces the greatest number of pills to provide benefits over a longer period of time. The raw placenta is dehydrated at a low temperature that keeps enzymes and hormones intact, then ground into a fine powder and put into capsules. The commonly used dosage is only 1 – 2 pills each day. Women find these pills may provide them with a powerful energy and hormone boost if needed, as well as keeping the baby blues away.
TCM Style Encapsulation
Inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this method involves steaming the placenta and dehydrating it at a low temperature, then grinding it into a fine powder and putting it into capsules. These pills are often taken at a higher dose initially (2 pills 3 times a day) and then gradually decreased over time as needed. We continue to provide this service to mothers who value the original methodology, though it will produce fewer pills which need to be taken more frequently to achieve the same effect.
Combined Encapsulation
The placenta can be divided in half and prepared to utilize the benefits of both methods, which provides mothers with a wider range of benefits. These can be taken in a variety of ways. Some women choose to take a High-Potency pill in the morning, then TCM pills in the afternoon and evening. Some choose to take the TCM capsules as a steady dose throughout the day and use the High-Potency on an as-needed basis, and some choose to finish one type of pill completely before starting the other. You can freely adjust the dosage to find what works best for your body and your recovery.
Tincture
A tincture is a wonderful way to extend the benefits of your placenta beyond the immediate postpartum recovery. It can be used for PMS, menopause, or any time of stress or transition. A tincture is made using a small piece of your placenta matured in alcohol for several weeks. It comes in a 2oz bottle and the dosage is 7-10 drops under your tongue as needed.
Placenta Print
The placenta is sometimes referred to as the Tree of Life because of its function in providing life to the baby, as well as its appearance. An imprint of your placenta on acid-free heavy paper is available with your encapsulation. Color Prints can be made using natural spices (to protect the integrity of the placenta), to create a “Tree of Life” in green and brown, or other colors of nature. Visit our Print Gallery for examples of prints.
Cord Keepsake
The cord is dried into the shape of heart and offered as a complimentary keepsake with every encapsulation.
Smoothie
A smoothie is a great way to receive an energy boost soon after birth. A fresh organic fruit smoothie made with bananas, apples, mixed berries, orange juice, almond milk and almond butter is prepared with a small piece of placenta. We keep a piece of your placenta safely stored until we are ready to deliver your capsules. We then make your smoothie just before we leave for delivery so that it is very fresh when you enjoy it.
Truffles
In addition to your pills, you can enjoy the benefits of your placenta in delicious, rich chocolate truffles. Made with dark chocolate, and heavy cream, with placenta powder hidden inside.
